Arizona State Representative Nick Kupper has issued a warning to Governor Katie Hobbs and Attorney General Kris Mayes regarding the potential risk of losing federal funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to their refusal to release necessary data. This data is required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ensure the integrity of SNAP, which includes confirming eligibility and preventing misuse of funds.
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins emphasized that states not complying with data sharing requirements could face funding cuts. Arizona, under the leadership of Democratic officials Hobbs and Mayes, is currently at risk. Representative Kupper expressed concern that withholding this information could jeopardize food assistance for eligible families in Arizona.
“Families who follow the rules and rely on SNAP to get through the week should not be put at risk because the Governor and Attorney General are choosing political fights,” Kupper said. He urged both officials to comply with federal mandates to prevent disruption in assistance.
Kupper highlighted that political strategies should not interfere with essential programs like SNAP, especially as election year approaches. He called for immediate action from Hobbs and Mayes to provide the required data.
Nick Kupper serves as a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives for Legislative District 25, which covers parts of Maricopa, Yuma, and La Paz Counties. He was elected in 2025, succeeding Tim Dunn. More details about his letter can be found here:Â
