The Arizona Western College (AWC) Art Gallery will host “Pre-Symposium Day at AWC” on Thursday, February 19. The event offers the public a chance to preview presentations from the upcoming Yuma Art Symposium. Admission is free.

Four artists scheduled to present at the Yuma Art Symposium will discuss their work throughout the day. Natalie Conway will begin with a session on painting from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m., followed by Bethany L. Wood focusing on metals and printmaking from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Colleen Mullins will cover mixed media between 12:30 and 1:45 p.m., and Susan Beiner will conclude with ceramics from 2:00 to 3:15 p.m.

The event takes place in the AWC Art Gallery, which is currently displaying the “Edges and Overlaps” exhibit until March 11. This exhibit features ceramic works by artists from South Texas College and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Professor Rebecca Shelby commented, “We are very pleased to be hosting both events in the AWC Gallery. A couple of the artists in the ‘Edges’ exhibit will also be attending the Yuma Art Symposium and will be at the reception on Feb. 19 from 11:45-12:30. This is a great opportunity for students and the public to meet the artists and ask questions about the art and processes the artists use. It is an ‘open mind and absorb all you can’ kind of day.”

The gallery is located in Room 110 of the AB Building on AWC’s Yuma Campus.
