The City of San Luis announced on July 2 that Mayor Nieves Riedel and the City Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2026 budget during a regular council meeting held on June 25. The new budget, totaling $143,178,500 across all operating and capital funds, will take effect on July 1.

The adoption of this budget is significant for residents as it outlines funding for essential city services and major infrastructure projects. The plan includes $52,159,270 allocated to capital improvement projects such as the Highway 95 Water and Sewer Project, Merrill Avenue Improvements Phase II, upgrades to Joe Orduño and East Community Parks, water storage tank rehabilitations and upgrades, and expansion of the West Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Many city services are funded through General Funds, which cover police and fire departments as well as maintenance of streets, parks, and other infrastructure. These revenues primarily come from local sales tax and state-shared funds. Other services like water, wastewater, and solid waste are financed through user fees in separate enterprise or utility funds. Additional programs are supported by special revenue sources including federal and state grants, development fees, and bonds.

The city said the budget reflects its commitment to addressing current needs while planning for future challenges through strategic investment. It also aims to foster growth, support economic development initiatives, preserve the environment, enhance public services such as parks and recreation programs, and maintain financial sustainability. The City of San Luis operates under a council-manager form of government according to the official website.

San Luis has grown from a small town into a thriving community in Arizona according to the official website. The city promotes community engagement through open council meetings and public events according to the official website.
