The City of San Luis announced on Oct. 15 the completion of a new groundwater well and manganese treatment plant at Well Site 7, representing a major investment in the city’s water infrastructure.

The project is intended to improve water quality for residents by filtering iron and manganese through an advanced media filtration process, with a treatment capacity of 2,400 gallons per minute. The total cost for the facility was $6,654,611.99.

Planning for the new plant began in 2022 with conceptual design work, followed by engineering design in 2023 and 2024. Early procurement secured key components such as the filtration system and electrical equipment. Construction began after awarding the contract in 2024 and reached substantial completion in July 2025.

Eulogio Vera, Public Works Director, said, “The completion of the new water production well and manganese treatment plant at Well Site 7 is another major step toward strengthening our city’s water infrastructure.” Vera also said, “The project ensures that our water system continues to meet the growing demands of our community while maintaining the highest quality standards.”
