The City of San Luis announced on March 20 that the contractor Hensel Phelps will begin work on the southbound vehicular and pedestrian lanes at the San Luis Port of Entry I, starting Tuesday, March 24. The construction will result in a temporary change to the southbound pedestrian route into Mexico.
The change is expected to affect both pedestrians and drivers using Main Street and Urtuzuastegui Street. According to city officials, the new pedestrian route will start at Urtuzuastegui Street and Archibald Street instead of its previous location at Urtuzuastegui Street and Main Street. Pedestrians will be guided around the construction area within the port and exit at the existing U.S.–Mexico crossing. The adjustment for pedestrians takes effect at approximately 8:30 a.m., while vehicle traffic will shift into new southbound lanes via Archibald Street starting around 9:00 a.m.
City officials urge travelers to follow all posted signs along Urtuzuastegui Street and within the port area. They also advise pedestrians to plan ahead, allow extra time for crossing, and refrain from bringing shopping carts into the port of entry. Dates and times for these changes are subject to modification without notice.
