The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Board of Directors has approved the expansion and reconstruction of Cesar Chavez Boulevard in San Luis, Arizona. The project, awarded to DPE Construction, is set to begin in early 2026 after more than a decade of planning.

The $65 million investment aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion along Cesar Chavez Boulevard. Planned upgrades include the transformation of the boulevard into a four-lane divided roadway with improved intersections, new signals, lighting, signage, drainage enhancements, asphalt paving, and pavement markings. The project also includes construction of a one-lane roundabout at the intersection with Escondido and San Luis Plaza Drive.

City officials say the project will help enhance roadway safety and support economic development for San Luis. According to Mayor Nieves Riedel: “This is a major win for San Luis. This is a testament to the dedication of former and current council members, city staff, and the entire regional team who stayed committed over the years to make this long-awaited project a reality.”

Construction is scheduled for completion by 2028.
