San Luis reports preliminary results of November 4 special election

The City of San Luis announced on Nov. 4 the preliminary results of its special election, where voters decided on two key issues: the potential sale of property owned by the San Luis Facility Development Corporation and Proposition 434 regarding compensation for city officials.

The election is significant as it addresses both the management of public assets and the structure of city government. The results will become official once canvassed by the San Luis City Council.

For Question 1, which asked whether the city or its facility development corporation should be authorized to sell all real and personal property known as the San Luis Regional Detention and Support Center at public auction for three years beginning Nov. 20, 2025, voters rejected the measure with 61.10% (812 votes) voting “No” and 38.90% (517 votes) voting “Yes.” On Proposition 434, which proposed that the mayor and councilpersons serve without compensation, benefits, or travel allowances as city volunteers, voters also voted against it with 57.04% (762 votes) voting “No” and 42.96% (574 votes) voting “Yes.” The proposition would have nullified any existing laws or ordinances providing such compensation or reimbursements.
