City of Yuma issued the following announcement on Sept. 19
1st Avenue reconstruction project
The City is reconstructing 1st Avenue between 16th Street and Orange Avenue, including improvements to underground water/sewer infrastructure, to sidewalks and driveways, and to surface pavement. With local traffic exceptions, stretches of 1st Avenue between 9th Street and 13th Street are closed to through traffic. Through mid-October, 1st Avenue is closed between 9th Street and 10th Street. 10th Street remains open for resident and business access. 1st Avenue will remain closed between 11th Street and 13th Street.
Orange Avenue will be closed on the west side of 1st Avenue, as will the small intersecting portion of 4th Street, through Sept. 20.
Overall, the project is currently scheduled to be complete by the end of 2019.
Harvard Street sewer project - Kennedy Lane
A contractor working for the City is installing a sewer line that will connect to residences along Harvard Street, replacing septic systems for residents that have executed consent forms. Pavement replacement will follow.
In the earliest phase of construction work, Kennedy Lane will be restricted to northbound traffic only north of Harvard Street. Southbound traffic will be prohibited south of 23rd Street. This will affect Gila Vista and Gwyneth Ham school dropoff and pickup patterns that use Kennedy Loop. School parents should prepare for detours and use Arizona Avenue to exit the school areas. This project is federally funded through a Community Development Block Grant under Housing and Urban Development. This lane closure is expected to continue through Sept. 26.
City Street Maintenance
Street maintenance operations for Sept. 23-27 will take place in the following areas:
Fog seal
24th Street and Araby Road, through Oct. 4
Street striping
8th Street from Avenue A to Clifford Way (prepare for slurry seal)
24th Street from Araby Road to Avenue 9E (prepare for slurry seal)
Other utility projects and encroachment permits
8th Street, Avenue C to Avenue D (Yuma County)
Yuma County is reconstructing and widening 8th Street between Avenue C and Avenue D. The work includes widening the roadway to a 5-lane section with sidewalks, streetlights and drainage improvements. Currently, there is shoulder work taking place on the north side of the roadway through December. In the future the roadway will be closed to through traffic, but access will be maintained to local homes and businesses. Completion of the collaborative project is anticipated by early November.
Starting Sept. 16, the intersection of 8th Street and Avenue D will be closed through mid-October as part of this project.
Avenue B, 16th Street to 32nd Street (SW Gas)
A contractor working for Southwest Gas will replace a gas line on Avenue B from 16th Street to 20th Street, with work in cross streets 24th Street, 25th Street, 26th Street and 32nd Street. Project will run through the end of September. Expect lane closures on Avenue B and some possible turn restrictions.
Night work has been taking place on 24th Street resulting in lane closures from Camino Barranca to Avenue B. Daytime work has been taking place on 24th Street from just east of 18th Avenue to west of 19th Avenue, resulting in lane closures on 24th and no left turns from 19th Drive onto 24th Street.
Avenue 6E, 32nd Street to 40th Street
Starting Sept. 30, Avenue 6E will be closed from 32nd Street to 40th Street. This is for deep excavation work to install new sewer and water lines to the coming Veterans facility, plus install concrete and new road construction for facility access. Work is expected to last approximately 10 days.
4th Avenue, 27th through Catalina (Century Link)
Through Oct.18, Century Link manhole access workwill require a closure of the right southbound lane of 4th Avenue between 27th Street and just beyond Catalina Drive. This work will take place at night between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Arizona Avenue north of 16th Street (Century Link)
Southbound Arizona Avenue approaching 16th Street will be reduced one lane for fiber installation. Speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph. Work will complete by mid-November.
16th Street at Engler (Yuma County)
Yuma County will conduct crack seal maintenance on 16th Street on either side of Engler Avenue the week of Sept. 23-26. Eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane.
16th Street at 14th Avenue (SW Gas)
Southwest gas will conduct valve maintenance on lines under 16th Street just west of 14th Avenue. Through Sept. 27, westbound 16th Street will be reduced to one lane.
8th Street, Avenue A to 10th Avenue (SW Gas)
Gas line pipe work will bring lane restrictions to 8th Street between Avenue A and 10th Avenue, while the alley between 10th Avenue and Avenue A will be closed on both sides of 8th Street. This is part of larger gas line work that will conclude in November.
Downtown gas line replacements (SW Gas)
Gas line replacement work will require detours as posted from August through December in the following downtown locations:
Madison Avenue between 1st and 2nd streets.
Court Street and 4th Avenue.
2nd Street between Madison Avenue and 1st Avenue (night work).
Madison Avenue between 2nd Street and City Plaza (night work).
Alley between 3rd and 4th avenues, from 1st Street to Giss Parkway.
Sept. 17-19, overnight work will require the full closure of Madison Avenue between 1st Street and Giss Parkway, with work hours occuring between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
14th Avenue, Ridgeview Drive (SW Gas)
Southwest Gas has a 5-day project where contractors will be placing sections of main lines along the northbound side of 14th Avenue between Ridgeview Drive and 19th Street. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers on site to control directional flow.
25th-27th streets, Virginia Drive area (SW Gas)
From Aug. 1 through as long as Dec. 1, Southwest Gas contractors will be replacing main lines in the areas between 4th Avenue and 1st Avenue and between 25th Street and 27th Street. Affected streets will include 25th Street, Virginia Drive, 27th Street, and the alley between Maple and Hacienda.
The week of Sept. 23-27, road closures will include 25th Street from Virginia Drive to 4th Avenue, then 26th Street from Virginia Drive to 4th Avenue.
Avenue 7E south of 24th Street (SW Gas)
Southwest Gas will be working on service stub lines along Avenue 7E and intersecting side streets south of 24th Street through October. Lanes will be narrowed in work zones.
Avenue C at 16th Street
The right southbound lane of Avenue C will be closed approaching 16th Street for upcoming pavement replacement at H.L. Suverkrup Elementary School parking lot. Exact project dates were not available; however, permit stipulates work will be completed by Oct. 25.
12th Street west of Avenue A (SW Gas)
12th Street will be closed immediately west of Avenue A for gas line replacement. Detour is 11th Street. Exact work dates were unavailable; however, the permit expires Oct. 25.
Avenue 6E, near 44th Place (APS)
APS is working in the shoulder of Avenue 6E near 44th Place to install infrastructure for the Driftwood subdivisions. No lane closures are in effect; however, motorists are advised to drive with caution near workers.
3rd Street, 4th Avenue - Avenue A (Century Link)
Century Link has a five-month project to repair telephone cable along 3rd Street, between 4th Avenue and Avenue A. The project which will involve accessing manholes will cause lane closures and in some areas sidewalk closures.
APS pole work, various locations (APS)
APS will conduct pole maintenance and install new infrastructure on existing poles throughout the area through September 2019. While work will mostly occur on shoulders, some lane narrowing and shifting will take place within work zones. Work zones the City is aware of include the following:
32nd Street between Barkley Ranch Avenue and 45th Avenue (Sept. 30 to Oct. 4)
32nd Street between Avenue C and 28th Drive (Sept. 30 to Oct. 4)
24th St west of 19th Drive
Avenue C and 32nd Street
32nd Street east of Avenue D
21st Drive north of 25th Street
19th Street between 10th Avenue and 11th Avenue
24th Street and 22nd Drive
3rd Street and 8th Avenue
1st Street and San Clemente Drive
10th Avenue and 3rd Street
Avenue B and Country Lane
Avenue A, east side south of 22nd Street.
Avenue 3E north of 40th Street.
