City of Yuma issued the following announcement on Sept. 25
City of Yuma Marketing Specialist Carrie Ring earned a rare certification, and was honored Wednesday by the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA) at their annual Convention, Expo and Retreat in Williamsburg, Va.
Following completion of a two-year program, Ring is now a Certified Festival Event Executive (CFEE), a designation claimed by more than 200 graduates since being founded in 1983. IFEA members produce and support quality celebrations for the benefit of their respective communities.
“I'm extremely proud, honored and thankful to work for the city of Yuma where leaders see the value of continued professional education, and encourage it,” Ring said. “I am passionate about organizing events that make an impact on the lives of the community. Bringing leaders together supports our mission and creates experiences for festival attendees.”
Ring, whose job involves working with City of Yuma Heritage Festivals, said she is already implementing ideas, strategies and tactics learned through her work in the program. One was the creation of the BBQ and Brew Festival, which debuted this past February and is on course to provide a certified barbecue competition in 2020.
“My personal and professional mission is to stand out from the pack; to stay fresh; to create lasting impressions; to stand up for what’s right; to spur imagination; to motivate and inspire; to find solutions to challenges; to stake my claim on the future; to set new bars for my team, my peers and our industry; and to prepare and position myself and our events to make an impact for future generations to enjoy,” Ring said.
Through her work in the CFEE program, Ring found herself rubbing elbows with organizers of giant, nationally televised festivals from all over the world.
Ring started in 2013 as an event specialist with the Yuma Civic Center where she had an integral role in the organization and execution of the city's centennial celebration in 2014 with a focus on the Tunes and Tacos festival, held in April. The event tripled in size from its earliest years.
