City of Avondale recently issued the following announcement.
Your Zoom commute will be easier than ever, with the new ‘Zoom Uptown’ and ‘Zoom Downtown’ loop. Monday, October 28, 2019 will mark the launch of the continuous loop route for the Zoom neighborhood circulator.
The City monitored feedback from passengers and made adjustments based on riders’ requests. The recent modification eliminates the ‘North Route’ and ‘South Route’ -- instead, there will be a Zoom Uptown (counter clockwise) and Zoom Downtown (clockwise) loop. Zoom buses will stop at all the stops along the route. Other changes happening on the Zoom route will be a minor adjustment to the route that adds stops at John Paul Catholic High School and at the intersection of Litchfield and Indian School roads.
The Zoom circulators, with their unique bright red logo and checkered flag graphics, traverse through Avondale, Tolleson and Goodyear between 5:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and weekends 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Service operates every 30 minutes, taking passengers to local destinations and attractions for 50 cents (exact change required) per trip. Among the destinations on the Zoom routes are: Estrella Mountain Community College, La Jolla and Westview High Schools, Avondale Civic Center and Library, Historic Avondale, Gateway Pavilions, Wal-Mart, Park 10 shopping center, Tolleson City Hall, and into Goodyear at the YMCA, West Valley Hospital and Target. Ridership for 2018 was just over 190,000 and continues to grow.
Funding for the route is provided by local and federal transportation funds. Route operations are provided by the Regional Public Transportation Authority (RPTA).
