The La Paz County Board of Supervisors held a meeting on March 16 where the board accepted an offer from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to set aside around 5,500 acres of land in eastern La Paz County.
Parker Pioneer reports the land will be used to further La Paz County's solar power development plan. The land will house a solar power facility that will reportedly produce 850 megawatts of power for county residents. Additionally, the project will provide additional jobs and revenue for the county.
The decision has been in the air for four years. Board Chairperson and District 3 Supervisor Holly Irwin told the Parker Pioneer that the decision has been a "long time coming."
It took Congress, and a signature from President Donald Trump, to direct BLM to sell the land to La Paz County at the market price of the property. The Board of Supervisors approved financing for the purchase of the land and agreements with 174 Power Global, a solar energy company, to lease the land and develop it.
