CITY OF GOODYEAR: Goodyear to Reopen on Monday, May 11

Reopening

City of Goodyear issued the following announcement on May 7

Starting Monday, May 11, the city of Goodyear will begin to reopen for the first time since the closure of public buildings and amenities on April 1, following Governor Ducey’s statewide stay-at-home order.

The move to enter Phase 1 of the city’s reopening plan comes after the governor’s  announcement this week, accelerating the reopening of retail, restaurants and salons. In the spirit of the governor’s orders, the city will open under Phase 1 while following the federal reopening guidelines, outlined below.

Goodyear’s Phase 1 Plan

  • On Monday, May 11, city offices will reopen to the public. Signs will be in place to encourage social distancing and utilization of online city services.
  • City Council/Planning & Zoning meetings will remain closed to the public; however, the public can continue to participate through alternative methods.
  • Some city amenities will reopen with enhanced cleaning and signs will be posted outlining social distancing requirements and limits on large gatherings. Park rangers will also monitor and provide education. Those amenities include:
  • Basketball, volleyball, tennis and pickleball courts
  • Roscoe Dog park
  • Playgrounds and restrooms
  • Note: Goodyear Skatepark and splash pad will remain closed to the public during Phase 1
The health of Goodyear’s residents and the city’s employees is of the utmost importance. To prevent further spread of COVID-19, many city employees will continue to telecommute in Phase 1. Those who will physically come to work and interact indoors with the public with no protective barrier, will wear face coverings. The city has also installed glass barriers at public counters and will encourage social distancing through markings on the floor. Employees will also check for virus-related symptoms before their work shifts and thermometers will be available in every city department.

Residents will also see signs placed at various city locations reminding employees and the public about what we can all do to continue to stop the spread of the virus.

The city will look to move into Phases 2 and 3 when the time is right and when the state has indicated a consistent downward trend with virus cases and symptoms in Arizona.

Residents are still encouraged to do business with the city online at goodyearaz.gov/coronavirus.
