After years of application, on May 22, David L. Bernhardt, U.S. interior secretary, signed over 5,900 acres of public land in La Paz County over to the county, according to Parker Pioneer.
The land has been owned by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for years. County officials held a customary ceremony at the Yavapai County Courthouse, which is located in Prescott.
Bernhardt was joined by Holly Irwin, La Paz County supervisor. Also in attendance were D.L. Wilson, Duce Minor, Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar, and Arizona State BLM Director Ray Suazo.
Gosar said the land transfer would bring new energy to La Paz County. He also said there will also be an uptick in jobs and growth.
“I was happy to work with Bernhardt to make this a reality for my constituents,” Gosar told Parker Pioneer.
Irwin also highlighted that the transfer would bring more jobs.
“Our vision is to attract new renewable solar development to this strategic location to diversify our local economy and create high paying jobs,” Irwin told Parker Pioneer.
