ARIZONA WESTERN COLLEGE: AWC confirms fourth staff case of COVID-19, temporarily shutters Yuma County campus locations

Covid

Arizona Western College issued the following announcement on May 28

A fourth member of the college’s essential team tested positive for COVID-19 this week causing the college to temporarily send all essential employees home for 10 days, to return on Monday, June 8. Remote work by college employees will continue.

The ill employee is hospitalized in stable condition. This past Tuesday the college announced 3 positive cases from the same essential employee team. All three are resting at home, recuperating, and their teammates send best wishes to the four employees and their families.

AWC Campus Police and KAWC Colorado River Public Media teams will modify their schedules to complete their work.

All other employees have been instructed to stay home next week. University partners at NAU-Yuma, UA-Yuma and ASU@Yuma have been notified of plan. The temporary Yuma County campuses closure is due to a desire to protect people from spreading the illness to each other, not about risk from being in campus buildings. The AWC Facilities team has been following a thorough schedule of meticulous sanitizing and cleaning. When employees do return to campus, college facilities will be ready.

AWC Human Resources team members have been working to determine which co-workers these COVID-19 positive employees had contact with immediately prior to becoming symptomatic so those co-workers can be notified and seek testing.

Anyone who thinks they've been exposed can find testing information at the Yuma County Health Department daily update here.
