COLORADO INDIAN RIVER TRIBES: Statement on Use of Face Masks

Colorado Indian River Tribes issued the following announcement on June 19

The Colorado River Indian Tribes is implementing a Reservation wide requirement to wear face masks while in public settings. Given the rapid increase in positive COVJD-19 cases it is time to lake these additional steps to slow this surge of COVID-l9 cases on the reservation. Individuals shall be required to wear a face mask over their nose and mouth, which does include cloth masks or coverings, while in a public setting

All businesses on the reservation shall require all staff and customers to wear a face mask while inside their premises. This includes, but is not limited to, stores such as Wal-Mart and Safeway, restaurants including McDonalds, Subway and Taco Bell, and mobile home parks. The only exceptions to this requirement shall be children 2 and under, those with developmental disabilities or other medical conditions that prevents the wearing of a face mask. This action will be ratified at the Tribal Council meeting on June 22 with additional details and parameters forthcoming.

ALL CRIT employees have been mandated to wear face masks while working since June 3”’, 2020. CRIT Tribal Council has anticipated this now pressing need for face masks. Early in this pandemic supply chains for face masks were very limited. However, due to our planning CRIT has now obtained a substantial supply that allows us to provide face masks to our membership. In order to assist our members with complying with this mandate CRIT will be providing face masks to tribal members beginning the week of June 22. CRlf Departments and Enterprises are responsible to ensure they maintain adequate supplies of face masks for their staff, clients, and visitors through their own supply chains.

Everyone needs to do their pan to slow this surge of COVID-19 cases. We need to protect the most vulnerable in our community-our elders and those with medical conditions that place them at higher risk. With everyone’s commitment to this new mandate and the CRIT Stay at Home Resolution #54-20 we can succeed in keeping our community safe and well.
