The Yuma City Council recently approved $320,000 of CARES Act funding to be used to help small businesses that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yuma Mayor Douglas Nicholls came up with the idea for relief grants after several Zoom meetings with local business leaders and listened to their challenges and concerns following Gov. Doug Ducey's ordered closures.
“The intention is that the city is able to offer these relief grants to many of those businesses as we step up to navigate this public health crisis and its economic impacts,” Nicholls said in a release. “We are not done finding solutions for our community, and I’m eager for businesses to apply for and receive these funds as soon as possible.”
Grant amounts range from $1,500 to $10,000. To qualify, businesses must be located in Yuma city limits and own or lease a commercial real property in Yuma city limits. Businesses must also have earned less than $2 million in gross revenue in 2019 and have 50 or fewer full-time employees. Businesses eligible for grants include hair salons, barbershops, massage therapy spaces, nail salons, tubing operating businesses, water parks, restaurants, movie theaters, bars and fitness clubs or indoor gyms.
