Gov. Doug Ducey has been appointed by President Donald Trump as a co-chair of the Council of Governors, a bipartisan forum for governors and the White House to discuss pressing issues such as the National Guard, homeland defense and defense support to civil authorities, and advise on policy direction.
Ducey, who will replace Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson as the council’s Republican co-chair, said in a press release issued by his office on Aug. 13, he is honored to continue his work with the group.
“Prioritizing the council is just one of the many ways the Trump administration has facilitated strong partnerships with the states and given Arizona a seat at the table on the issues that matter most,” Ducey said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to help lead dialogue on these important issues and look forward to further collaboration and success working alongside our federal partners.”
Elected Arizona governor in 2014, Ducey has served on the council since last year. He is among the 10 governors – five Republican and five Democrat – who form the group with several federal officials.
