In order to share expertise on common issues and collaborate on mutual interests, the City of Yuma has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Regional Council of Ramat HaNegev, Israel.
Areas of common interest between the two regions include desert agriculture, high-tech agriculture technologies, desert tourism, broadband, rural internet connectivity, water usage and conservation, aerospace industries, educational innovation, border issues and economic development.
“We look forward to increased collaboration in our shared areas of strength, like agriculture, research, technology and more,” Douglas Nicholls, mayor of Yuma, said in a release.
Yuma and Ramat HaNegev will collaborate by establishing bilateral agreements between the two regions, exploring funding for industry technology development and demonstration, advancing research and academia, fostering educational and research exchanges and encouraging joint ventures between respective businesses.
The agreement comes after Nicholls traveled to Israel with the Arizona Commerce Authority's Arizona-Israel Trade Office. Commercial opportunities between Arizona and Israel were discussed.
“This exciting agreement between the City of Yuma and Ramat HaNegev will benefit both regions by increasing opportunities for research and development, education and investment,” Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, said. “Israel and Arizona share an important relationship and we’re proud to advance collaboration between our two states through the Arizona-Israel Trade & Investment Office in Tel Aviv."
