On Friday April 8, 2022, just after 5:00 am, a fire was reported in the West Wetlands Park. Yuma Fire Department personnel arrived to find a brush fire burning in approximately the west 1400-1500 block along the river. The area burning, estimated at an acre or less, took about an hour to contain and control. YFD firefighters have remained on the scene through the morning working on spot fires and flare-ups.

The fire was first discovered by City of Yuma Parks and Recreation employees who acted quickly to report the fire, and worked to locate other spot fires in the area. The West Wetlands Park was completely closed for a time, but areas other than the immediate area of the fire were opened back up as they were determined to be safe. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
