During the Regular City Council Meeting of Wednesday, May 11, 2022, Mayor Gerardo Sanchez and City Council appointed Mario Buchanan Jr. as the new Vice Mayor for the City of San Luis.
During the council meeting, then Council Member Mario Buchanan Jr. volunteered and requested Mayor and Council for the opportunity to serve as Vice Mayor. Council Member Matias Rosales motioned to appoint Mario Buchanan Jr. as Vice Mayor; motion was seconded by Council Member Luis Cabrera and was approved by a 6-1 vote. Council Member Gloria Torres abstained from the vote.
Vice Mayor Mario Buchanan Jr. was first elected to the San Luis City Council to serve his first four-(4) year term from May 2008 through June 2012. He was then re-elected as a Council Member in 2014 and has been serving since. He is a member of the National Association of Latino Elected Board (NALEO) and League of Arizona Cities and Towns.
“I will fulfill my duty as a public servant and continue serving my community in this new role,” stated Vice Mayor Mario Buchanan Jr. “We have many projects coming up and it is an exciting time to now serve as Vice Mayor. Most importantly, I know I have the support from Mayor Sanchez and City Council,” he concluded.
“I know that Vice Mayor Buchanan is going to do a great job,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “We have a lot of work ahead of us and we are going to continue making a difference together,” he concluded.
