Sending thoughts and prayers to Brutus for a full and speedy recovery. Thank you to Deputy Felish, his wife and all the veterinarian staff for the great care!
Please send good thoughts or prayers for our Brutus!
Deputy Felish and Brutus got home just before 2am. Brutus ate dinner and afterwards started showing signs of bloat. Deputy Felish and his wife got Brutus to the vet right after realizing the severity of the problem. They’ve been there since 3am.
The doctor called in staff to help and they immediately prepped and got Brutus right into surgery starting around 5:15am. Thank God for Kanab Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Ballard, and his staff. We are so grateful they answered the 3am phone call and were willing to come in, as we don’t think Brutus would’ve made it to Vegas as time was of the essence, and the ER vet in St. George, Utah didn’t have any doctors available. This poor dog has been through a lot so far on his tenure.
6:15 am update: “Just got an update they flipped and untwisted the stomach. The underside of it isn’t in the best shape and the spleen was purple which is due to the lack of oxygen from the stomach twisting. They said when they untwisted the stomach the spleen started to get some color back, so that’s optimistic but they wanna give it some time and if it isn’t where the doctor would like it to be, they may need to remove the spleen. But his vitals are good and his blood pressure has gone back down to where it needs to be. They’re now gonna work on tacking the stomach to make sure twisting doesn’t happen in the future.”
7:15am update: “They’re stitching him up and getting his recovery room ready. The doctor will explain more to us when they are finished”
8:15am update: “Brutus is out of surgery and in recovery. Deputy Felish and his wife are along side him awaiting for him to wake up. The doctor believes the spleen will be fine but wants to keep a close eye on him to be sure. If the spleen heals correctly, he expects a full recovery and Brutus can return back to work fully in month apprehension wise, and two-three weeks for narcotics work.”
