YUMA COUNTY, AZ – The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) has issued a warning regarding imposters and fraud schemes targeting job seekers with offers of employment within the county.
According to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, some potential victims had applied for employment at Yuma County, while others may have had their information obtained from public job-seeking websites.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of caution when receiving job offers, stating, "When being offered employment with Yuma County Government, be aware that you would be first contacted by phone regarding an offer of employment before requesting any additional personal information that would be needed."
The Yuma County Government has reported instances of potential victims receiving offers of employment through fraudulent emails from non-county email domains, such as hryumacounty@mail.com and careers.yumacounty@gmail.com. The official domains for Yuma County Government emails are @yumacountyaz.gov or @governmentjobs.com only.
Individuals are advised not to share sensitive information like driver’s license, social security, or bank account numbers in response to such emails, as it could leave them vulnerable to identity theft.
In case of suspicion regarding the legitimacy of a job offer, individuals are urged not to download any attachments or click on any links but to report the email to local law enforcement and contact Yuma County Human Resources at 928-373-1013 to verify the employment information.
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office stresses the importance of recognizing warning signs and conducting thorough research on companies to avoid falling victim to job scams. Should anyone believe they have been scammed, they are encouraged to contact law enforcement promptly.
