FOIA Request to La Paz County Elections Office Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
On February 5, 2025, we at SW Arizona News sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the La Paz County Elections Office. Our request was made under the Arizona Public Records Law § 39.101 et seq., and we asked for this information in an electronic format.
Our request specifically asked for a comprehensive list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. We requested that this list include each candidate's first, middle, and last name, as well as the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Additionally, we sought information about each candidate's party affiliation.
Furthermore, we requested all available contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a response from the La Paz County Elections Office regarding our request.
