Ribbon cutting to be held for Allied Health Lab in San Luis

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held next week to showcase the new Allied Health Lab at the Arizona Western College San Luis Learning Center, 1340 N. 8th Avenue.

The celebration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29. To attend, RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 28 to Laura Gauna at Laura.Gauna@azwestern.edu or (928) 314-9429. The event will also be livestreamed on the AWC Facebook page here.

The 1,855 -square-foot lab provides students with the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Computer Informatics. The new lab will also allow AWC to offer programs in Allied Health in San Luis. Students have already started taking biology classes in the new facility this semester. Prior to the construction of the building, students had to travel to the Yuma Campus to fulfill science lab requirements.

“Arizona Western College is passionate about transforming lives across the district, and the Allied Health Lab will take us one step closer to achieving that goal. This lab will open doors to many opportunities in Career and Technical Education. I am proud of the work that we are accomplishing in San Luis, and I look forward to the continued growth in facilities and services across the college district,” said Susanna Zambrano, Associate Dean for South Yuma County Services.

The project is being funded through $750,000 from the U.S. Department of Education’s Title III STEM Instinct2 Federal Grant Program, as well as grants from Career and Technical Education, and institutional funding.

“We are so excited to be able to offer this new Allied Health Lab to our students. This state-of-the-art facility will provide them with the hands-on experience they need to succeed in their chosen field. This will be a huge step in the right direction for our college and our students,” said Reetika Dhawan, Vice President of Workforce Development & CTE.

“The Allied Health Lab is just one example of the amazing things happening at Arizona Western College. With over 100 degree and certificate programs, AWC is committed to providing accessible, affordable, and high-quality education to all students. Opportunity for our South County students has never been better.”
