There were 53 African American students enrolled in Crane Elementary District schools in the 2022-23 school year, 24.3% less than the previous year, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Data showed that Crane Elementary District welcomed 6,089 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 0.9% of the student body to be the third least represented ethnicity in the district.

Crane Elementary District roughly covers schools within Yuma County and has a main office in Yuma.

Among the 10 schools in Crane Elementary District, Centennial Middle School and Gowan Science Academy recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 11 students.

In 2022 Arizona had roughly one teacher for every 19 students, compared to the national average of one teacher for 16 students. Teachers handling a higher number of students was found to have negative consequences for students’ school performance.
