A fire at West Wetlands Park prompted the City to close the park this morning. Parts of the park have since reopened.
The fire originated east of the Playa Linda beachfront shortly after 5 a.m. Friday, April 8. Parks and Recreation workers noticed at least two small fires and began extinguishing them.
The Yuma Fire Department responded quickly and controlled the fire. YFD remains on scene to control flare-ups.
The entire park, including the Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground, the pond, walking trails, the boat ramp and beaches, was closed. As of 1 p.m. Friday, much of the park has reopened. The trails and grounds between the boat ramp and Playa Linda remain closed to the public at this time.
YFD has released additional information regarding the fire.
